Board of Directors’ Tribute: Gloria Steinem, Cecile Richards & Janelle Monáe

“God may be in the details, but the goddess is in connections. We are at one with each other, we are looking at each other, not up.”

Gloria Steinem’s poignant words at the Women’s March in January rang true for a movement that includes her—an original American feminist and activist — Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards, and singer, songwriter and actress Janelle Monáe. The CFDA is honoring them together for their tireless work for women across the world and the powerful voice each had at the march.

Togetherness is elemental to their achievements. At the March, Monáe  shared the stage with mothers who lost children to police brutality, and Richards spoke a heartening truth that is testimony to each of the women’s inspiring leadership: “One of us can be dismissed. Two of us can be ignored. But together we are a movement and we are unstoppable.”

“God may be in the details, but the goddess is in connections. We are at one with each other, we are looking at each other, not up.”
